Party poppers make a wonderful addition to many different types of parties. In fact some people love them enough to buy them in bulk so they always have a stash to dip into whenever the occasion demands it.
But what about children’s parties? Are they safe to use in this situation or are they best left in the cupboard out of sight?
A lot depends on the age of the children who will be attending the party. If they are very young then you would be better off not using party poppers. They can be quite loud and as such they can frighten younger children. Even if the adults pop them they can be a bit much.
As the age group gets a bit older though they are worth considering. The main thing to be aware of are the safety rules surrounding the use of party poppers. Adults take it for granted that they should always be pointed away from other people as they pull the string to release the contents. Similarly we know that it is not a good idea to hold them close to someone’s ear because of the volume involved when they go bang.
But children may not know or realise this. In addition some children may know this but think it is funny or not take it seriously enough, so they are still liable to do it without thinking.
As you can see there is some thought involved before you decide whether or not to go ahead and use party poppers at a kid’s party. You can do so if you wish but if you are going to use them don’t leave them out on the table unattended before the children arrive. Instead keep them in a bag safely out of sight.
This has two benefits. Firstly you won’t have to worry about a child setting one off accidentally or without supervision. And secondly if the children arrive and you decide against using the party poppers for any reason, you don’t have to get them out. Instead you can save them for the next party you have.
So while party poppers are a good addition to many parties, think carefully before using them for younger children. You may be better off doing something else instead. Alternatively with supervision they can still be a delightful addition to the proceedings.
