Creating Kids Party Bags

Tuesday November 17, 2009

Kids’ parties are busy, noisy, fun affairs. But planning them can be a hard task if you don’t know where to start.

The more knowledge you have in advance, the better the task will be. So make sure you start on a firm footing by ensuring that you know how many children will be attending. This doesn’t need to be a firm number – just a ballpark figure will do.

So for example, if you think you will have sixteen children at the party, round that number up to twenty. It is always better to buy a few extra party bag items to make sure you have some extras, than to leave someone without a party bag!

And it isn’t just the total number of children present that matters either. You need to know how many boys and girls will be present. Again, just a rough figure is enough, but round it up just as you did with the total number of attendees so you know you will have a few spares.

Now the next thing is to decide whether you are going to buy the party bags ready made up, or whether you will make them yourself. The former idea is great if you are short on time and you want everything done as quickly and easily as possible. But you should expect to pay a premium for the work that has been done for you.

Making up party bags yourself isn’t that hard anyway. Think about getting five or six items per bag, to which you will add a slice of birthday cake, and that will be about right.

Next, you have to start looking for items that will be suitable for either boys or girls. Some websites will let you buy items individually, while others will sell them in packs of six or twelve, or other multiples. Have a look round and see what is available, and try and buy everything from the same website if you can. It will probably save you money. The other thing is that you will sometimes get a discount for buying a bigger number of items.

Some items, such as small notepads, crayons and so on, will be suitable for both boys and girls, so you could opt for a jot lot of these to get you started. You will find that there are plenty of items for boys and girls that are very popular and cost just a few pennies per item to buy, so do have a proper look round.

Of course you will need the party bags themselves as well. It’s a good idea to either buy two separate sets – once again, for boys and girls – or to go for something that is generic. A party bag that says ‘Happy Birthday’ is perfect.

Just remember that if you go for a generic bag, make sure you keep the two sets of bags for boys and girls in separate places. It will save you having to check them all before handing them out!
