Dressing The Table For Success

Tuesday November 17, 2009

When we think of parties we tend to think of big bold celebrations. But a party can just as easily be a small dinner party.

There is no reason why you shouldn’t do everything you can to make your dinner table look wonderful though. Just a few additional touches can make all the difference when it comes to making your dinner party into a memorable affair.

First of all, you could have a theme to your dinner party. This doesn’t have to be anything extravagant – it could simply be a theme of colours. How about silver and black accessories for example? You could have black napkins and silver party poppers for example.

As you can see there are any number of things you could do to lift your usual dinner table and turn it into something a bit different. And remember too that you don’t have to do an awful lot to make a big difference. Don’t think of changing everything and making lots of big gestures; simply focus on one or two things that can enhance the table more than you might expect.

It depends on the occasion as well of course. If you are hosting a party for a young member of the family you will end up with a very different looking dinner table to what you would have if you were hosting a dinner party just for adults.

Consider the time of year as well, because this will give you lots of ideas in itself. And remember too that you don’t need to buy everything that you want. For example, let’s say it is winter and you want to bring a wintry feel to the table. In that case you could use some twigs off the trees in your garden and spray paint them in silver. These look wonderful arranged in a vase in the centre of the table. You can also drape fairy lights round them too if you wish. You’d be surprised what you can do to decorate your table once you start thinking about it!

This can help you to keep the costs down for your dinner party as well. Instead of buying everything you need, you can make certain items yourself and spend your budget on a few other items. Think about buying napkins, candles perhaps, and even a few party favours if you would like to thank your guests for attending.

The other big tip is to dress your dinner table well in advance so you know whether it will work or not. If you leave it until the day of your dinner party and you don’t like the finished result, you will have very little time to do anything about it. If you do it a few days in advance you can make any changes required before the dinner party gets underway.

So have a think about doing something different when you next have a dinner party. Why do the same old thing when you can create a dinner table to remember?
